From Church

The demand for church

I like to think of each church that grows up in a community as that community's answered prayer for the presence of the saving Christ—the message of God's love for humanity.

LET NOT MY WORLD GROW SMALL

I ask not petaled path and glory's goldAs years wing by—mine is a wider prayer,A prayer though much repeated, never old:God, keep my world from growing small! Let careBe nurtured that my vision's lengthened scopeWill find illumination, and in givingOf my freshened faith to others I may hopeFor broad horizons and a grander living.

HIS BURDEN IS LIGHT

SAY, "OUR FATHER"

Dear Father, help me to declareThy sacred fatherhood:All Life, all Love, all power divine;Thy grace man's daily food.

THE CHRISTIAN HEALER

"Stand upright on thy feet!"What Love—renewing, irresistible—Inspired Paul's words at Lystra to the one born lame; And flamed in those of Peter to the manWho, daily at the temple gate, sat begging alms,Not yet aware that he might enter inAnd claim his God-bestowed dominion for himself.

MY PRAYER

Dear Lord, I prayNot only that I walkIn paths of righteousness today,But humbly do I askThat, as I go, I maySuch graciousness and joy expressThat others, too, may knowHow lovely are Thy paths, O Lord,Thy ways of righteousness.

PRAYER AT BREAK OF DAY

Dear Father mine, who sheddest lightUpon my path this day,That I may clearly see and knowThy perfect way,

CALL OF THE CHRIST

Fearless and unfaltering,Grasp the serpent-rod.

COMMUNION

That quiet communion, when all good is mine,Needs not the man-made bread and cup of wine.
