It's an opportunity—use it!

Opportunities for progress may take unexpected forms. An ordinary event can open the way to spiritual discovery.

While preparing dinner one evening, I burned my hand. I found myself thinking, "I've been down this path before; do I have to go through it again?"

As I reached out in prayer for help, a number of truths from the Bible that I'd learned through my study of Christian Science came to mind, truths about man's actual, spiritual identity as a child of God. This identity cannot be touched or invaded by any supposed power apart from Him.

Refusing to give my consent to the evidence of an accident or pain, I sought to realize that no circumstance can come between God, who is divine Love, and man. Instead of feeling helpless to stop the pain, I began to see it as a challenge that would claim to prevent me from knowing God's goodness and care. As a result, it wasn't long before the pain disappeared and I finished the dinner preparations.
