I want to express my deepest gratitude for all the blessings I have received since I took up the study of Christian Science.

A woman who lived in the same house with me gave me "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" by Mary Baker Eddy when I was suffering from many so-called incurable diseases and very discordant conditions in my home. There was no human law that could protect me from these conditions, nor were the doctors able to give me more than temporary relief from my physical suffering, although I had been under the care of one of the best specialists in London. One day the specialist told me that she could do nothing more—she had done all that could be done. She continued by saying, "Go home and study Christian Science," for she had noticed, when she had come to my home, that I pondered over Science and Health. I came home very much discouraged. I could not read the textbook properly, for I am Russian by birth, nor could I understand it. That night I prayed that God would reveal Himself to me.

For the first time in my life I felt a sense of calm and peace that I had never known before. The next day I opened Science and Health, and to my surprise I was able to read and understand it spiritually. From that time it has been my only physician, law, and comfort in distress. Difficulties were uncovered, and during that time I lost home, friends, everything I valued, and my relations became very much opposed to Christian Science and tried to force me to give it up. As I began to see myself as the child of God, I gradually gained complete freedom from the discordant conditions. My two children stayed with me, however, for which I was truly grateful, and I persisted in my study, because all wanted was to know more about the truth in Science and Health and Mrs. Eddy's other writings.
