Committee on Publication for Sussex, England, Reports

There is abundant evidence that the Lesson-Sermon excerpts are being ready by the public. To quote only one instance: A woman went into one of the Reading Rooms and bought a copy of Science and Health, explaining that she always read the excerpts in the local paper, and now wanted "to find out something more of Mrs. Eddy's teaching about God." Such instances as this are very encouraging, and your Committee will be grateful if members will report to the appropriate Assistant Committee any cases of a similar nature which come to their notice.

Some months ago a lecture was given in Brighton by a Church of England clergyman in which Christian Science was criticized and unfavorable comments were made about Mrs. Eddy. Several reports of this lecture appeared in the press, and four replies from your Committee were published.

Although the experience appeared to be difficult, much good has come from it. The Bishop of Chichester was the chairman of the meeting, and an interview was requested. Your Committee subsequently had a most cordial talk with the bishop, in which the standpoint of Christian Science was put forward and very courteously received.
