The Clear Windowpane

The first chapter of John's Gospel brings out the true meaning of light, of which Christ Jesus came to bear witness. The understanding that God is Mind, Spirit, is the light which dispels the darkness of ignorance.

The belief of life in matter is the result of the universal ignorance of what constitutes God and His idea, man. The discovery that man is God's image and likeness begins to enlighten mortals who have been deceived into believing that man is a mixture of matter and the five physical senses. Proportionately as the belief of life and intelligence in matter is corrected by the truth which Jesus proved by his words and works, the physical senses give up their false testimony, and the real man, spiritual and perfect, is brought to light. The fact of man's true being must be accepted before human consciousness can begin to emerge from its ignorance.

It is the work of Christian Science to enlighten the ignorant state of thought, until this ignorance calling itself a mortal disappears through spiritual understanding, even as darkness disappears before the light.
