Replies from Committees on Publication Appearing in the Press

A correspondent asks what the Christian Science church is doing toward the building of the New Jerusalem, and how far Christian Science can help "in reshaping the present natural and spiritual environment of man into that kingdom of heaven on earth, where fear and worry shall be replaced by love and peace."

The Christian Science church was founded by Mary Baker Eddy "to commemorate the word and works of our Master, which should reinstate primitive Christianity and its lost element of healing" (Church Manual, p. 17); and this work is being continuously carried on. The word "healing," taken in its widest sense, signifies "making whole," bringing to light perfection or completeness, thus destroying all sin and imperfection, all discord and suffering. How does Christian Science do this? By proclaiming the absolute spiritual truth about God, man, and the universe. It is scientific, because its teaching is based upon divine Principle, which can and must be proved.
