Is sensuality our reality?
As I felt a sweet sense of God’s goodness in healing prayer one day, I was drawn to think of something very different. I recalled an incident in which I had acted self-centeredly—from sensual motives.
The contrast between a healing consciousness of God’s all-embracing love and the bleakness of conceding to sensuality’s self-serving impulses felt stark. But that very starkness prompted in me a heartfelt desire to even more fully realize the progress I had been making over several years in breaking free from sensualism’s downward pull.
With the recognition that freedom was my heart’s desire came an embracing warmth and influx of peace. As Jesus said, “Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God” (Matthew 5:8). This wasn’t a finger-wagging demand to be good according to an arbitrary set of man-made rules. It was a precise statement of what actually satisfies and endures, voiced by Christ, the spiritual idea of God, which all Jesus’ words and works made so apparent.
