Christ wakes us up
I need to stop and listen for how the Christ is transforming my thought and waking me up.
In moments of despair, we may sometimes ask ourselves, “What is the purpose of human suffering? Or, more specifically, “Why is this happening to me?”
In Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, Mary Baker Eddy quotes the well-known adage, “Man’s extremity is God’s opportunity” (p. 266). Elsewhere she says, “If living in disobedience to Him, we ought to feel no security, although God is good” (p. 19).
These statements get our attention. God does not cause suffering, but it can be important to consider what we can learn from any challenging experience about what God is and what He does. So instead of replaying concerns about our circumstances over and over in our thoughts, we are called to action.
