“What I have is all I need”
Divine Love has all that we need and shows us this in the many—sometimes unexpected—ways God loves and cares for us.
During my early childhood in an Anglican Sunday School, we frequently recited these words spoken by Jesus that are found in Matthew’s Gospel: “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light” (11:28–30). This passage was translated into my mother tongue, but once it became very familiar to me, I generally regarded it as of no importance in my life. I did not know that these words would eventually turn my life around.
A few years ago, I became overwhelmed by fear and sadness because my small business was earning me almost nothing, while I owed my landlord and supplier money that they were aggressively ordering me to pay. I woke up every morning restless and afraid, so I took to praying almost every moment, seeking divine mercy.
One day, as I was starting to pray, I opened my Bible to read some verses, as usual, and I came across the passage from Matthew quoted earlier about Christ giving us rest, which I had not read for years. But this time, it sounded to me as if a voice was directing me toward the help I needed.
