A church member’s testimony helped heal me

One evening last year, I ate some microwaved food that felt just warm on the outside—but turned out to be piping hot on the inside. When I bit into it, it badly burned the roof of my mouth, and I was in a lot of pain. I’d had this happen before and remembered that it had taken a long time for my mouth to get back to normal. During that recovery period, I’d had to be careful when eating.

This time, however, I prayed right away. From my study of Christian Science, I knew I could reach out to God, divine Mind, for a spiritual answer to this problem. As I did, I remembered a friend’s testimony from a Wednesday evening meeting at our local branch Church of Christ, Scientist: As he was doing some woodwork on his sailboat, he’d badly cut his hand. While giving himself a Christian Science treatment through prayer, he was reminded of this statement from Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures: “The divine Science of man is woven into one web of consistency without seam or rent” (Mary Baker Eddy, p. 242).

The phrase “without seam or rent” helped him realize that he was a complete, spiritual idea of God and could not be gashed—could not be harmed in any way. After a Christian Science nurse helped him bandage it, the wound very quickly closed up. He was able to sand the bottom of his boat later that afternoon.
