A Sunday School invitation changed everything
I remember reading magazines at a very young age, especially about inventors and scientists. And once, when I saw a sign with the word Scientist on it on a church, I thought, “Wow, scientists have their own church.” Well, a few years later, I got some clarity on that assumption!
While we were in our senior year of high school, my twin brother was invited to a Christian Science Sunday School class, and he invited me the following week. This became a weekly event for me. Later, when I attended college, I was able to attend a Christian Science Sunday School near the campus. At this time, I would occasionally suffer migraine headaches. Not knowing how to heal them, I called a Christian Science practitioner to pray for me. She immediately agreed, and within a few minutes, the severe pain disappeared, never to return. This was my first healing through Christian Science. Wow, I thought, this stuff really works!
Financial difficulties prevented me from continuing college, so my military draft status changed, and I was eligible to be drafted. My training took me to California, where I met a Christian Scientist who worked in the local Christian Science Reading Room and would often visit soldiers at the fort where I was stationed. It was there that he took me under his wing.
