Quick recovery from toe injury

One day when I was working as a Christian Science nurse, I assisted another Christian Science nurse in rolling a patient’s bed into position. As I pulled the bed toward me, a low crossbar on the bed rolled right over my foot, painfully smashing my toe. I didn’t say anything, and we finished the care that was needed in the room and left. But as I sat down to make notes on the care given, I felt my toe throbbing. I didn’t want to look at the toe just yet because I didn’t want to impress on my thought any image of it that might inspire fear. Instead, I wanted to pray first.

After finishing my notes, I picked up a copy of Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy. I opened to the chapter “Science of Being” to read a metaphysical platform of which the author writes, “When the following platform is understood and the letter and the spirit bear witness, the infallibility of divine metaphysics will be demonstrated” (p. 330).

I realized that I could take a stand—spiritually—on this platform and the truths stated in each of its “planks.” The way that Truth and Love, both synonyms for God, are explained in this platform was my foundation in understanding true healing and knowing that no right activity can be disturbed by inharmony of any kind. I knew I could rely on those truths and understand that I am made in God’s image and likeness, as the Bible tells us in its very first chapter. I could stand on this metaphysical foundation of healing and move forward with complete freedom.
