A healing project: Understanding God’s all-power

Accepting and experiencing the all-power of good isn’t the result of human positivity; it’s based on holy fact.

Over the past three years, I have been doing a project to increase my consciousness of God as the only power. There are so many terrible attitudes and situations in the world today—things like hatred, selfishness, illness, deception, injustices, and accidents—that insist on our acceptance of evil as not just a power but an overriding one. To counter this, I’ve been turning quietly to God each day for help in recognizing His allness and supremacy.

A good first step, I’ve found, is simply to become open to the idea that God alone is potent. This is a horizon-widening step because everything seems to be telling us otherwise. In prayer, as I contemplate God’s power to right wrongs, heal sickness, and eliminate lack, it becomes clearer and clearer to me that God shares power with nothing and no one.

Christian Science teaches that God is omnipotent good. Accepting and experiencing the all-power of good isn’t the result of human positivity; it’s based on holy fact and can be proven. If God were just a good power in the midst of numerous overpowering evils, spiritual healings and resolutions could never occur. But the Bible contains numerous accounts of healings brought about solely through prayer, as do the Christian Science periodicals.
