“Truth is used to waiting”
Truth is unwavering in its trueness and nowness.
Although I had attended Christian Science Sunday School, and loved it because the atmosphere was so loving and free of criticism, when I became an adult, I attended church only occasionally. And I didn’t study the weekly Christian Science Quarterly Bible Lessons or read any of the Christian Science periodicals.
After a few years of this, however, because of multiple physical problems, I began to study Christian Science in earnest. My spiritual progress in its practice opened the door for healing of all those problems and more. Then, at one point, I came across this sentence written by the Discoverer of Christian Science, Mary Baker Eddy: “Through patience we must possess the sense of Truth; and Truth is used to waiting” (Miscellaneous Writings 1883–1896, p. 268).
I intuitively felt that this was an important concept for me to understand. Every night before bed, I thought about this statement, and although I didn’t fully grasp its meaning, it brought me peace before I fell asleep. During the day I pondered, What is Truth, God, waiting for? Is it waiting for me? How can Truth wait?
