Protected by God’s care

My wife and I live in the Sierra Nevada mountains of Central California, where winter snowstorms typically start around mid-November.

This past winter, our first snow came near the end of January. A snowstorm started just after dark, and in about 15 minutes the snow was two inches deep. Along with this, flashes of lightning directly overhead and window-rattling thunder were both spectacular and somewhat worrisome. Our cats and dog headed into hiding places. At the third lightning strike, our power went out. We have a large generator that normally starts up automatically in situations like this, but this time it did not.

As I went out to fix the generator, I fell hard down our deck steps, skidding backward down the steep stairs. Yet I felt no fear. Time actually seemed to slow down as I mentally took a stand as a student of Christian Science. I silently insisted that there could be “no accidents” (this is from page 424 of Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy) and knew that I was always and completely safe in God’s perfect care. The full sentence states plainly, “Under divine Providence there can be no accidents, since there is no room for imperfection in perfection.”
