Revolutionizing the world
The essential need is to demonstrate that it is God’s harmonious control of the universe, not mortality, that is the reality.
I have found in myself what I would call a hunger to understand more of what God, good, does in everyone and what a Christian’s purpose is today. The teachings of Christian Science, which are drawn completely from the Bible, reveal God as infinite Spirit and ever-acting Love and as our real consciousness, with us being the expression of God, Life. So we find ourselves to be witnesses of God’s significance to humanity and, as such, are presented with the opportunity and need to revolutionize a struggling world—to demonstrate all the good that God expresses in everyone, such as love, intelligence, and well-being.
One night recently, I woke up terribly sick with an upset stomach. Seeking healing through the spiritual approach I am used to, I focused on understanding our lives as not defined by material circumstances, such as a struggling world, but by what we’re all created by God to be—expressions and witnesses of His all-good nature. With more of that deep spiritual hunger, I felt a surge of strength, and within a few hours, I was fine. I went to church that morning and had a normal lunch that afternoon.
Human life is an experience in which, for the most part, we are not particularly conscious of what God is or expresses throughout His creation, including each one of us. Humanity is driven largely by the misperception that we’re faulty mortals, each with a mind of our own, and are governed by physical circumstances that inevitably include troubles. And although many may look to God for help while pressing on with addressing their issues, these efforts are not proving to be enough to overcome much. Breaking out of the constrictions of this mentality means pursuing what is essentially a spiritual revolution—something that expands beyond our individual lives to our communities and the world. The essential need is to demonstrate that it is God’s, Spirit’s, harmonious control and goodness, not troubled mortality, that is the reality of the universe.
