Freed from pain and conflict
Early last year, my husband and I and four other couples went on a long weekend getaway filled with fun, food, and activity. We were planning to be very active—kayaking, playing pickleball, and walking the beach. On the first morning, however, things took an unexpected turn.
While attempting a shot in a game of pickleball, I felt something snap or pull in my back. The pain radiated down my leg to my heel, and I had to stop and sit down. My friends, some of whom were not familiar with Christian Science, expressed concern. I assured them that I was fine but needed to take a break. I immediately emailed a Christian Science practitioner, and he began praying for me.
I also prayed for myself, standing firm in the understanding that God, Spirit, and not matter, is the source of all movement and strength. I reminded myself that I am not made up of blood, bones, and muscles, but am instead the expression of God—a perfect idea of divine Mind, which knows no pain, limitation, or discord. I spent some time quietly affirming this truth, and my understanding of my true, spiritual nature began to deepen. But there was more to this challenge than just the physical aspect.
