No unwelcome surprises
My husband and I were staying in a hotel. One night, as I returned to bed in the dark and unfamiliar room, I misjudged where the bed was, and as I began to lie back down, I fell, hitting my head on a wooden corner of the bed. The fall surprised me into being fully awake.
Right in the midst of the fall, though, the word grace came to thought, and I immediately felt God’s love and grace. My next thought was that, in reality, there are no accidents, which was something I’d learned from the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy. The full statement reads, “Accidents are unknown to God, or immortal Mind, and we must leave the mortal basis of belief and unite with the one Mind, in order to change the notion of chance to the proper sense of God’s unerring direction and thus bring out harmony” (p. 424). To me, this means that as the beloved, spiritual creation of God, Spirit, I am always in God’s care and cannot be separated from His love.
My husband was immediately there with support and prayer. We sent a text to a Christian Science practitioner requesting prayer. The practitioner responded and agreed to pray. With my husband’s help, I got up from the floor and into bed.
