First, choose Spirit
Good news! We can’t mess up God’s work.
In the Bible, God instructs Moses to give His people the Ten Commandments, the first of which is “Thou shalt have no other gods before me” (Exodus 20:3). This is the foundation for the other nine Commandments on how to live.
The Bible also tells us that God is Spirit. Christian Science teaches that Spirit is incorporeal and eternal and that since God created man—the true identity of each of us—in His image and likeness, we are wholly spiritual and reflect God. So the question is, Do we put God, Spirit, first before everything else? It’s a question I’ve asked myself often.
You might say yes if you wake up in the morning and study the Bible Lesson from the Christian Science Quarterly first thing. You might say yes if you pray before each decision you make. You might say yes if you acknowledge God’s government and care before each activity. In these ways, and so many others, you are proving that yes, God, Spirit, is the most important part of your life, just as the First Commandment instructs.
