Skin growth removed through prayer

I have been blessed by growing up in a family where Christian Science was lived and loved. Throughout my life, I have witnessed many practical demonstrations of the healing truths taught by this religion.

Two summers ago, I noticed a growth on my face between my right eye and the bridge of my nose. It was not a blemish or some kind of irritation, but something unsightly that had not been there before, and it got my attention. I prayed diligently to not be alarmed and to understand that as a child of God, I could claim my dominion over any physical disorder. I also asked a Christian Science practitioner to pray for me. Although I saw this growth every time I looked in the mirror, I made an effort to not look at it. I persisted in dwelling on the facts of my existence as a spiritual idea, created by Spirit, God, not by matter.

I held on to a simple statement of truth that I had learned when I was a student in the Christian Science Sunday School: “There is no spot where God is not.” This statement is based on the spiritual fact that God is All and fills all space. I knew also that God made everything good, and that, as Mary Baker Eddy, the Discoverer of Christian Science, wrote in the Christian Science textbook, “a spiritual idea has not a single element of error, and this truth removes properly whatever is offensive” (Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, p. 463).
