Christian Science treatment and the Golden Rule

This editorial is in response to a reader who wanted to know about Christian Science treatment for healing, and about respecting the wishes of others regarding such treatment.

To begin with, Christian Science healing practice follows the two commandments Christ Jesus commended—to love God with our whole heart, and to love others and ourselves as God knows and loves us (see Matthew 22:37–40). This involves gaining a spiritual understanding of God and His governing laws through consecrated study of the Bible and of Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, daily prayer, and humble obedience to those laws.

Christian Science treatment is specific prayer to meet a human need, including physical healing. It affirms man to be the image of God and therefore not subject to disease. And healing comes through the influence of God, divine Love, on individual human consciousness.
