Free of back stiffness and irregular heartbeat
A few years ago I developed stiff muscles in my back that made it very difficult to move or lie down comfortably. Additionally, my heartbeat became irregular, and at times I felt that I might pass on.
As a practicing Christian Scientist, however, I have been learning that God is Life itself. The Christian Science textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy, explains that Christ is “the Way, the Truth, and the Life” (p. 332) and that “nothing inharmonious can enter being, for Life is God” (p. 228). These thoughts helped calm the fear that I could somehow pass away from or out of Life, because I knew that, as God’s image and likeness, I could never be separated from Him. I realized that just as nothing inharmonious could ever enter God, who is all good, my true identity as God’s spiritual idea was similarly free from discord.
Although the discomfort did not immediately leave, I did have more of a God-given sense of dominion over this situation. And with that came a sweet sense of expectancy that I could find my God-given freedom from the physical condition.
