Difficult throat condition cured
Some time ago I was faced with a difficulty in my throat and could not swallow properly. At first I paid no attention to the condition, hoping it would disappear quickly without my doing anything. But it got worse and worse. Finally, I could no longer utter a word, and even swallowing a teaspoon of hot tea caused me the most severe pain.
My wife urgently recommended contacting a Christian Science practitioner we know to ask for metaphysical treatment. Since I wasn’t able to talk, my wife called her for me. She described the situation to the practitioner, and I listened to the words the practitioner directed to me over the phone. She explained that disease and pain are illusions of material sense, which are destroyed by the truth about spiritual man.
She quoted from the Christian Science textbook, Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures by Mary Baker Eddy: “Because the so-called material body is a mental concept and governed by mortal mind, it manifests only what that so-called mind expresses. Therefore the efficient remedy is to destroy the patient’s false belief by both silently and audibly arguing the true facts in regard to harmonious being,—representing man as healthy instead of diseased, and showing that it is impossible for matter to suffer, to feel pain or heat, to be thirsty or sick” (p. 376).
