Adapted from an article published in The Christian Science Monitor, March 16, 2018.
“You didn’t hear? It’s all over the news!” a friend said to me.
I hadn’t. I found this disconcerting, so I Googled it. After finding the shocking news, I had to ask: Why wasn’t it being reported in other publications I read?
I soon learned the story had been sensationalized to the point of fabrication. In other words, it was fake news. I told my friend, but I felt upset and disturbed. This experience underscored deeper issues our world has been roiled by: questions of trust and truth.
