Quick healing of flulike symptoms

This is adapted from a testimony originally posted during The Mother Church’s online Wednesday testimony meeting.

One evening, I had all the symptoms of a bad case of the flu and felt miserable. As is my custom when faced with a difficult situation, I turned to my Bible and Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures, by Mary Baker Eddy, for healing.

I had been thinking about the fact that our troubles often come from false beliefs and misconceptions about ourselves and others we entertain in thought, often without realizing it. I read Psalm 51, and two verses stood out to me: “Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean: wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow” (verse 7) and “Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me” (verse 10).

I considered that the word right could also be seen as “steadfast.” The word steadfast struck a chord with me as a God-derived quality that I seemed to need. But I realized that since in reality I was already the image and likeness of God, as the Bible says in the first chapter of Genesis, I necessarily already had what I needed to demonstrate that steadfastness. We all do.
