All of God’s creatures—under God’s care
One morning earlier this year, while watching our spectacular African fish eagles soaring overhead with such freedom, grace, and power, I was reminded of the beauty of God’s creation and of God’s omnipotent power. Here, in the southeastern coastal region of Africa, where we’re surrounded by rivers, the eagles are a common sight, especially at mating season when you hear their beautiful, haunting cry.
That same morning I had been informed that a strain of the avian flu virus had been diagnosed in poultry in South Africa. The spread of this virus had been a fear of poultry breeders worldwide, as it is known to have a fatal effect on domestic poultry. All sales of live poultry, all auctions, and, most important, all poultry shows were to be cancelled. There was to be no transportation of live birds anywhere in the country for the foreseeable future.
