Tunisian summer
Perched on the coast near Carthage, Tunisia, is the town of Sidi Bou Said. Former Turkish governors and wealthy citizens built homes there. Today, it’s a popular tourist destination and is known as a town of artists.
Walking the hilly neighborhood streets one bright June morning, I was struck by the predominance of white walls and blue window shades, giving a calm, relaxed Mediterranean feeling. The air was fresh, and prolific flowering bougainvillea vines had draped themselves across the fronts of most of the houses.
In this shot, the profuse magenta blossoms display a vibrant intensity that really caught my eye. If only in a small way, it was as if divine Love were affectionately enveloping this scene in its radiant majesty. It brought to mind Mary Baker Eddy’s statement, “Love giveth to the least spiritual idea might, immortality, and goodness, which shine through all as the blossom shines through the bud” (Science and Health, p. 518).
