'Don't I know you?'

I’m so grateful for all the ways I have learned to see man’s Godlikeness. As a student of Christian Science I have learned that man is the expression of God, and I can see His expression in everyone. It’s not hard when you get the hang of it.

Several years ago, I started to realize that I was meeting people along my “daily walk and conversation” (Science and Health, p. 21) who seemed very familiar to me. I began to ask people when I met them, “Don’t I know you from somewhere?” The response would come that we didn’t. When the conversation was over, I would just scratch my head, wondering where I might have met them.

One day it dawned on me. Of course these people were familiar. I was seeing their goodness, their Christliness. I was witnessing the many qualities of God they reflect. And as I began to love more, I started to look for these perfect spiritual qualities with more of a commitment, wanting to cherish them in everyone. It made me realize that each of us expresses the beauty of holiness—and that we are all capable of seeing this in one another.
