Feel only God's goodness

A Christian Science practitioner shared the following experience with me. He’d been asked to pray for someone who was in pain. He’d talked with this person about the Bible verse: “Ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free” (John 8:32). At one point, the patient said something like, “Yes, I know, I know. But I don’t feel it!”

The practitioner suggested considering the statement in this way: “Ye shall feel the truth, and the truth shall make you free.” God’s, divine Truth’s, love could be tangibly felt. It wasn’t cold or theoretical. And the healing came.

Pain, whether it feels like it belongs to us or others, has “no power to maintain itself,” as Marian English puts it in our lead article this week (see p. 6). By challenging the validity of pain in its various forms, the healing truths explained in Christian Science help to alleviate and destroy physical and emotional distress. Marian goes on to offer this to seeking hearts: “Through Christian Science, Christ-healing has become more accessible to humanity than at any time since the ministry of Jesus. Christ is the light of spiritual love. Pain and fear cannot invade this love.”
