Letters

I found Kim Shippey’s review of Counterfeit Gods so very helpful [February 6 Sentinel, “Your safety assured”], especially bringing out Timothy Keller’s definition of an idol: “It is anything more important to you than God, anything that absorbs your heart and imagination more than God, anything you seek to give you what only God can give.” And then the list of contemporary idols of “workaholism, chronic indecisiveness, perfectionism, and the need to control the lives of others—plus excessive love of one’s own children . . .” opened new doors of thought for me. The part about discovering the truths “but then you need to ‘pray them in’ to your heart,” I compared to reading Christian Science books and literature and actually applying the truth to a situation. It was great hearing what we know is true in Christian Science from another point of view. Thanks again for the great review.

I just read the “Question of the week” [“How have you prayed to address angry reactions, either with yourself or others?”] in the January 30 Sentinel [“Silence anger with prayer”].
