Working for our ‘Father’s business’
As I have moved through different jobs throughout my life, I’ve often asked myself, What do you think would make your life a success? More money? A bigger house? Just being able to pay your bills?
A dictionary describes ambition as a “strong drive for success; a desire for excellence or superiority; to seek after” (Webster’s Dictionary). As a student of Christian Science, I have found it helpful to work and pray for the high spiritual ambition that Mary Baker Eddy recommends. She wrote, for example:
“Have no ambition, affection, nor aim apart from holiness” ( Miscellaneous Writings 1883–1896, p. 154).
