The following was written in support of Church Alive, a focus of The First Church of Christ, Scientist, that explores the meaning and possibilities of awakening to the spiritual basis and impact of Church.

A weekend trip with spiritual purpose

Sixteen years ago, two or three women who were having lunch discussed how they felt isolated from their peers—whether it was working out child rearing, marital relationships, church duties, or womanly issues from a prayer-based perspective. They felt support and kinship as they shared how they applied what they were learning as students of Christian Science. An idea was born: Why not have a weekend for women to gather together for the purpose of sharing Christian Science? Toss in a little fun, yummy food, lots of laughter, and a great get-away location! Voila! The Snow Sisters was formed.

We talked, sharing stories and asking questions. We were different women from different paths.

Every year, we rented a house for a weekend in January in picturesque Door County, Wisconsin. About ten women gathered for the first event, arriving from four different Christian Science churches. There was laughter, cross-country skiing, snowball fights, good food, crackling fires, and most important, dialogue. We talked, sharing stories and asking questions. We were different women from different paths, but from the same Father-Mother God. A need was met.
