QUICK RECOVERY AFTER BIKE FALL

I bought a bike after moving to Southern California and started riding joyfully along the Pacific Coast Highway many miles every week. The time I spend on my bike has been time with God, cherishing my oneness with Him and appreciating the beauty and balance of His creation.

Several years ago I was finishing up a 50-mile ride when my cellphone rang. As I moved to answer it, I inadvertently threw myself off balance, running into a chain link fence, skidding for about 20 feet and hitting my helmeted head very hard against a fence post.

I lay on the ground dazed and in a lot of pain, especially in my head and neck. Several observers offered to help me up and to take me to get help, but I reassured them that I just needed a few minutes before I would be able to ride the short few miles to get home. One person stayed with me while I collected my thoughts.
