THROUGH A SPIRITUAL LENS

THROUGH AN OPEN DOOR

I took this photo in Arequipa, Peru, when I was traveling around South America some years ago. It is of an outside courtyard in the Santa Catalina Monastery, which is famous for its vividly painted walls and pots of geraniums round every corner.

It was fun exploring all the corridors and enjoying the views through heavy old doors and archways into sunlit courtyards. I stopped at this particular spot because I loved the idea of peering into the distance through so many openings, and imagining where they might lead me.

All these years later, this is still one of my favorite images because it relates to my natural instinct to always keep mental doors open to new ideas. People sometimes remark about how many different things I've done in my life, and ask how so much could have happened to just one person.
