LIFTING THE WEIGHT OF GRIEF
WHAT I SAY UNTO YOU I SAY UNTO ALL, WATCH.
— JESUS
The Christian Science Sentinel was founded in 1898 by Mary Baker Eddy, and its mission remains the same: "to hold guard over Truth, Life, and Love." The Sentinel continues to report on the unlimited ways that the healing power and presence of the Christ activates, uplifts, and transforms the lives of everyday people around the world.
In this issue of the Sentinel, our writers share healing ideas that have brought comfort and release during times of grief—ideas that can inspire you during difficult times, too. For those struggling with the weight of grief, or who may be supporting a friend through a tough time, it's encouraging to know that many people have found reassurance by turning to God.
"No divorce, adoption, estrangement, misunderstanding, or death can separate us from God's tremendous love," writes Thomas (Tim) Mitchinson (p. 15). In our cover section, Tim shares his experience following his father's passing when Tim was in high school. He writes that although his high school years were not easy, he prayed. And as he did, "It became clearer to me that God is our true FatherMother. We can never be without our divine Parent .... We are divinely created to be the object of limitless divine affection, and to express Him . . ." (pp. 14-15). And Pamela Gresham shares a beautiful healing of grief, which also involved the resolution of financial difficulties that took place after her husband passed away. She writes: "I realized that I needed to pray about the world beliefs concerning widowhood. I was not a fragmented half of a once happy whole, cruising on the downward side of a timeline with limited prospects for happiness. Rather, all the qualities of joy, love, and purpose that I possessed were a permanent reflection of my FatherMother, given to me by my Maker before the world was" (p. 19).
We hope the healing ideas in this issue bring comfort and regeneration to those dealing with grief, and help anyone who's inspired to prayerfully uplift the world's sense of loss and sadness. And we hope that you find peace as you read of God's perfect love and changeless care for all His ideas.
