AN UNDERSTANDING THAT BRINGS HEALING

A new TV series in the United States about a woman fighting cancer calls it The Big C. The word cancer is for many so big, so fearful, so hopeless. But even in the direst circumstances, the Biblical promises of God's supreme power and care for His beloved daughters and sons remain true and probable. "With God all things are possible," Christ Jesus affirmed (Matt. 19:26).

Numerous healings have been reported in the Sentinel over the years that, from a purely medical point of view, would have been considered miraculous. Yet the study of Christian Science gives us hope and conviction that there is nothing that prayer cannot cure, through God's grace and our understanding of His infinite goodness.

The discoverer of Christian Science, Mary Baker Eddy, described how she was able to prove this in her book Unity of Good, where she wrote, "When I have most clearly seen and most sensibly felt that the infinite recognizes no disease, this has not separated me from God, but has so bound me to Him as to enable me instantaneously to heal a cancer which had eaten its way to the jugular vein" (p. 7).
