DAILY PRAYER—THAT ONE NEEDFUL THING

DEDICATING PORTIONS OF OUR DAYS CONSISTENTLY TO prayer for ourselves and for others is the most effectual contribution we can make toward improving lives.

That expression of love and natural care for others is deeply instilled in each one of us. Perhaps it's what most accurately identifies us as children of God. Could it be that one reason a group of people gathered together with children often find themselves delighting in them is that children love naturally and express their love freely and openly? This childlike goodness is the true nature of God's children—each one of us. It is this attractive, primitive goodness that motivates us to pray on behalf of others. And it includes prayer for ourselves.

Woven into our spiritual makeup is that deep inclination to heal. And healing is the most selfless way to express the love that is God, divine Love. This basic, spiritual desire itself, just like a young seedling, needs shielding and alert protection; if we aren't watchful of this innate spiritual activity, it seems to vanish like a glass of water spilled on a sidewalk on a hot summer's day.
