SONGS AT MIDNIGHT

EARLY IN AUGUST, Slate, an online magazine, posed this question to its readers: "How is America going to end?" What the magazine described as a "weeklong thought experiment on the United States' demise" attracted over 60,000 participants, a good number of them from outside the US, including about 15 percent from Slate's Russian site.

EACH INDIVIDUAL HAS THE POWER TO SING AT THE MIDNIGHT HOUR AND TO PROVE THE PRESENCE OF LIGHT IN THE MIDST OF DEEPEST SHADOWS.
