IN THE CHRISTIAN SCIENCE BIBLE LESSON

'LOOK NOT AT THE THINGS WHICH ARE SEEN'

MATTER September 14–September 20, 2009

For me this week's Christian Science Bible Lesson, titled "Matter," does a great job of illustrating that God—Spirit—is supreme.

Basic to Christian Science is the teaching that matter and physicality are not part of God's nature or creation. Recognizing this truth can reveal that one's identity and intelligence aren't comprised of physical substance. Here's how the Golden Text puts it: "We look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal" (II Cor. 4:18). And First Corinthians promises, "Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard ... the things which God hath prepared for them that love him" (2:9, citation. 20).
