our daughter's healing

IN THE SPRING of 1989, when our daughter Jamie was five years old, she had a healing that has served as a landmark in my progress, understanding, and trust in the practice of Christian Science.

As I was tucking her into bed one evening, I noticed a large lump on the side of her neck. She hadn't felt well that day, and the lump's sudden appearance alarmed me. I immediately contacted a Christian Science practitioner to pray with us. My husband and I had seen many proofs of God's care in healing Jamie and our two other children of physical ailments, and we were confident that relying on prayer in this situation would result in healing.

I really dug in with prayer, focusing on Jamie's spiritual wholeness. Of course, I also made sure she was comfortable, offering her a variety of foods and drink, sitting with her and singing hymns, such as Mary Baker Eddy's "Mother's Evening Prayer" which begins:
