CHILD QUICKLY HEALED OF BURN

Over the Christmas holidays, my family and I drove from Massachusetts to Illinois to spend time with family. On our way there, we spent a night in upstate New York with my parents, and then had a great drive to Ohio, where we settled into our hotel for the night.

The next morning, our two children were playing in the room, and as my wife and I were getting packed up, I began to make a pot of coffee, and then continued packing. In a split second, Anthony, our younger child, reached up and grabbed the coffeepot, spilling the hot liquid down his arm and chest. For a moment, I panicked. He was crying, and I ran to him to comfort him and reassure him that he would be OK.

While I was still dealing with fear, our daughter, Madeline, calmly walked toward her little brother. She began assuring him that God was protecting him and that God would not let him be hurt. She was used to our practice of turning to God in prayer when we needed to. My wife had also run to Anthony's side and removed his shirt, all the while telling him that God was taking care of him. But it was our daughter's calm and simple approach to the situation that really helped calm my own thoughts.
