Foot prints

Early on a winter morning, I woke to the beautiful sight of snow falling softly, making a downy blanket on the ground. A gentle snowfall always has such a healing effect on me. It calms my thought and speaks of rest, refreshment, and restoration. I just had to go outside. I'd been preparing to sit down to read the Christian Science Bible Lesson, but first, I was compelled to take a "prayer walk."

When I stepped off the porch, my first impression was one of beauty and purity. As I walked along, hearing only the squeak of my boots in the snow, the blessing of quietness filled my thought. I was struck by the almost tangible power of this quietness. Any sound outside of nature's own seemed out of place.

I tuned in to the gurgling of a creek, the soft clump of snow falling from branches, and bird song. God, divine Love, had cloaked the earth in peace. Stepping into this solitude was like entering into the "heart of prayer," a sacred place where we can discern more clearly what God is communicating to us (Science and Health, p. 15).
