LETTERS

Thank you for the recent Sentinel issues on "What really heals?" (October 5) and "Flu-proof health" (October 12). I wanted to share an insight I had after reading those issues.

I am a graduate student, and my university has been concerned with the spread of the flu this season. I have been a student at this university for several years, and this is the first time they have taken action to prevent the spread of flu. One of their efforts was to put hand sanitizers in common areas such as near elevators and around study desks. Initially, every time I saw one of these new hand sanitizers, I immediately thought of the spread of disease from others.

It was a constant reminder that actually began to convince me that I was subject to contagion by having unclean hands. However, after reading these two Sentinel issues, I found a helpful idea. One of the articles related the account of Jesus healing a man of leprosy, and it was pointed out that Jesus "put forth his hand, and touched him," and the man was healed (Mark 1:41). Jesus had no fear of the spread of leprosy, as he showed by touching and healing the diseased man.
