THERE IS A WAY OUT

No matter how much violence has been committed in a relationship and how intractable a situation may be, there is a way out. That's the message of this week's Sentinel, inspired by the Bible promise: "He will cover you with his pinions, and under his wings you will find refuge" (Ps. 91:4, New Revised Standard Version). Even if a victim of violence, or a perpetrator, may not see it yet, God has already commanded His angels to guard and guide them "in all their ways" (see verse 11).

Domestic violence can be called an epidemic of our times. It cuts through all walks of life—from the wealthy to the poorest population groups—but in the past year in the United States, there have also been indications that economic woes can exacerbate the situation.

One of our writers this week, whose name was withheld in order to protect her identity and that of her family, has been there and was able to work her way out through prayer and her deepening understanding of Christian Science. Describing her most valuable lesson learned, she says: "When we experience injustice at the hands of others, it has to do with where they are on their journey, and not with us. We can refuse to suffer" (see p. 12).
