HEALED OF LEG PAIN

A few years ago, I awoke in the early morning darkness with a pain in my leg that was so uncomfortable I had to get out of bed and head for the living room to pace and pray. This had been going on for several evenings in a row. It was more comfortable to walk than to stay in bed, but even while on my feet I felt discomfort.

I was now identifying the situation as a call to get up and walk with God—in other words, to pray. I began with a hymn from the Christian Science Hymnal, which opens with the words, "I walk with Love [God] along the way," and includes the statements "God's healing truth is free to all" and "Our Father answers every call" (Minny Ayers, No. 139).

I finally phoned a Christian Science practitioner to pray with me. Our conversation was a wake-up call for me. I was so grateful for the spiritual intuition reflected in what she said. Prior to my leg difficulty, I had been ruminating about the behavior of others who had an important place in my life, and, yes, I was, at the moment, disappointed with them.
