LETTERS

The August 24 issue on consumerism has been very helpful to me as I pray for our world issues, and I have continued to reread it. My professional training is in the field of agricultural meteorology and climatology. I have been thinking and praying about climate change and peak oil for many years and have made some individual changes as a result.

I found the Sentinel's spiritual treatment of consumerism helped me see how to pray in new ways concerning climate change and peak oil. Several especially helpful ideas from Ron Ballard's article were: "One must also look at how one's purchases and choices affect the world and its people as a whole"; also the idea that "true resources operate unspent" and that we ensure our attitudes and values "replenish" and "uplift."
