TRUST IN THE DIVINE ADVENTURE

I've found that the adventure of life doesn't just relate to backpacking the Southern Alps of New Zealand, whitewater rafting through the Grand Canyon, living at the South Pole, or snowshoeing across the breadth of the Sierra Nevada Mountains in California, which I undertook a couple of years ago. Adventure is available to all of us. And God prepares you for any adventure you might face — whether planned or not, on a mountain or in your career. (But more about that later.)

On that Sierra trip, I found that fear tried to thwart our team's ambi tious effort with questions to cause doubt: "Will we run out of food?" "Will it be too cold?" "Will the air be too thin?" But with the planning and preparation we'd done, the answers were, of course, no; partly because, apart from working out the logistics, packing the proper gear, and being ready for whatever conditions the mountains might throw our way, my basic preparation had been spiritual — with a lot of prayer.
