I will draw with anything, anywhere

An interview with Kristin Joy Pratt-Serafini

Kristin Joy Pratt-Serafini, who illustrates and writes books for children, answers questions that Kids' Sentinel readers asked.

Did you ever want to be something other than an illustrator, like an astronaut? Or did you always know you wanted to be an artist?

Good question! Yes, I've always been interested in art. But, more than thinking about what I wanted to be, I've asked myself: How do I want to be? Jesus had a great answer to that question. When a lawyer asked him what the most important commandment was, Jesus said, "The first is, '... you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind, and with all your strength.'" And he said, "The second is this, 'You shall love love your neighbor as yourself'" (Mark 12:29–31, NRSV). These two commandments are my guide for how I want to be. When you love God, love your neighbor, and love yourself, you can bring healing to anything you do. So I'm interested in using my art to practice this love.
