A HELPFUL TALE

There's a story about a kind man who found a rattlesnake trapped under a big rock. The man felt sorry for the snake and lifted the rock, saving its life. The rattler, not losing a moment, recoiled and was about to strike, when the man shouted, "What are you doing? I just saved your life, and look at you. Now you're trying to bite me!"

The reptile sneered, saying, "You've got a lot to learn about life! Don't you know that in this world, good is always returned with evil?"

The man disagreed. He said to the snake, "I'll tell you what; make a deal with you. We'll ask the next three passer-by their opinions. If all three agree with you—that good is always returned with evil—I'll let you strike me."
