One day in August 2006, I noticed that my perception of color was strange when I looked through my left eye. Since I was very busy at work that day, I basically ignored it, and didn't give it too much thought. Over the next few days, things got worse, until I eventually couldn't see anything from that eye at all.

This weighed on my thoughts very heavily, and intense fear kicked in. I was in such panic that I made the decision to visit a doctor. He became alarmed and began to list worst-case scenarios. As he was talking, it really hit home that this medical approach to finding a solution was not the path I wanted to walk.

Whenever I've doubted Christian Science treatment, I've always thought about one concrete example of healing. At age 13, I was healed of curvature of the spine. Although I hadn't been aware of the problem initially, a relative, who is a surgeon, said I needed to be put in a back brace. My aunt asked my permission to help me through prayer, and we phoned a practitioner together. The next morning, I awoke crying because my back hurt. My aunt was there, and I remember we said "the scientific statement of being" from Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures (Mary Baker Eddy, p. 468). Then she called the practitioner again. I fell asleep and woke up about five hours later, free from pain. Within the next month, I gained two inches in height, and have had no problems with my back since.
